How to Dehydrate Food 4 Different Ways – National Preparedness Month

I love dehydrating food! There are several ways to dehydrate food.

I used to dehydrate in a dehydrator when I lived in a suburban area.

Then when I moved to AZ, we made a solar dehydrator and that worked amazingly well.

Now I’ll be dehydrating with our wood stove using cooling racks.

You can also use your oven if you’re ok with it being on all day.

I love to make my own fruit leather and dehydrated meals.

Dehydrated foods can last anywhere from 5-10 years, depending on the food. Jerky tends to last only about a year or two. I’ve had dehydrated chicken last a couple years.

I look for exact recipes online when determining temp and length of time, but I usually just check every few hours to see if they’re crispy yet. Most of the water should be gone.

Rehydrating depends on the food but usually needs twice as much water to rehydrate.
Store in Mylar bag with oxygen absorber or in a vacuum sealed bag or vacuum sealed jar.

Are you ready to dehydrate!?!?!?! Get at it!!
