What I Learned from 365 Days of Prepping

Back in 2015, I recorded a video a day called ‘365 Survival‘ where I tired to do some sort of survival/prepper related activity. I completed all 365 days. It was intense.
It’s been about 5 months since I finished the series and I’m ready to talk about what I learned!
In the beginning of the series, I sort of had a vague idea of what I wanted to do. I wanted to do something prepper/survival related on a daily basis, but I originally envisioned it as a ‘day in the life of a prepper’ instead of actually doing something prepper related each day.
As the days progressed, it finally snapped that I was going about the series all wrong. I needed to do something different. To show progress in my prepping and survival and training. I needed to learn and do things that I had never done before.
I think once that clicked in my mind, my time was better spent and in turn, my videos were better.
I wasn’t doing this series just to become a famous YouTube – far from it. I was doing this for myself. To be accountable for my own actions as a prepper, to push my limits, to go above and beyond. And that’s what I did.
I began learning new things and showing all that I learned through those daily videos.
But even though there’s so much to learn, it was still a struggle sometimes to figure out what I would do each day. To do a new activity each and everyday? That’s a lot! No prepper does something new every single day.
I didn’t actually do something 100% new everyday. Sometimes it was just practicing an existing skill. Not everyday was exciting, either. Some people thought I was getting ‘burnt out’ because I didn’t have some new exciting video. I wasn’t burnt out, I just couldn’t have some big exciting video every single day! But, that’s ok, those people that judged me? They couldn’t do a video a day to save their lives.
Also in addition to doing the 365 series, I also did regular videos on the side that would be uploaded Mon, Wed, Fri. So…I was busy!
Doing something prepper/survival/fitness/fun related everyday gave me an excuse to try things that I never would have tried before. I never would have tried certain survival hacks or tried certain techniques or even thought about certain things without doing that 365 series. It really pushed me to better myself and my prepping. It pushed me to be a larger part of the community and to learn things I never thought I’d learn before.
I’ve been in this prepper game long before I started the 365 series, but I had never pushed myself to the extremes that I did during the 365 series.
After finishing the series, do I think in order to be prepared you must do something new/practice something everyday?
No way. Prepping isn’t a race, it’s a journey.
You should consistently try to better yourself, but it doesn’t have to be on a daily basis. It doesn’t even have to be on a weekly basis. I try to do something at least once-twice a week, but we all have our normal lives that we need to attend to and that’s ok!
It was SO MUCH fun to do something prepper related on a daily basis. I really did learn a lot and I really enjoyed pushing myself to extremes that I never thought I’d ever push myself. I know that I am capable of so much more.
It was a wild ride and I’m still shocked that it’s over and I was actually able to complete all 365 days.
