How To Prepare for War – Emergency Preparedness
Are you worried about the potential for the US getting involved in war? With tensions between North Korea, Iran and others, it’s hard not to feel a bit anxious about it all.
That’s why we need to be prepared.
How exactly do you prepare for war?
Step 1:
Don’t panic. Instead, start getting prepared! Begin with the basics such as:
- two weeks worth of food and water
- extra medications
- backup batteries for any medical devices
- flashlights
- candles
- matches and lighters
- alternative ways to cook food and boil water (such as with a camp stove)
- compact solar panel
- external cell phone battery charger
- NOAA weather radio
- HAM radio (if you don’t have your license, consider getting it, but you can still listen in if you know how to program it)
- toilet paper
- hygiene items
- ways to purify water
- extra food, water and medications for pets, elderly or anyone with specific needs
Step 2:
Know how to gather intel. Intel will be your friend. In the beginning, you may be able to continue to gather intel through traditional news stations, internet, social media, etc. Knowing the signs of war or even hearing a proclamation of war, will help you begin your preparedness plans. However, if there’s ever a power outage, you may be solely reliant on a HAM radio network, AM/FM radio or through the grape vine. However you choose to get information, make sure you have any extra batteries or solar charging devices in order to keep that source of intel alive.
Step 3:
Do you know the nearest concrete building or basement to you? If you’re one of the lucky ones to have a basement or know someone who has a basement, outfit it with that extra food and water and other supplies. If you don’t have a basement or don’t know anyone with a basement, you’ll need to know the closest concrete building to you. This is usually a school or government building. Get away from windows, go to the place with the tallest ceilings and the most concrete. Add this to your
Step 4:
Consider investing in a gas mask and full chemical suit. I go into detail about gas masks and suits, just click here to read about it and see if it’s right for you. Don’t forget the iodide tablets.
Step 5:
Beef up security and self-defense. In times of uncertainty, there will be plenty of people both unprepared and prepared that will be looking to take advantage of others. Be prepared with extra security efforts. This could be anything from homemade trip wires to firearms. There are many ways to defend your home and family.
Step 6:
Create community. Even though there will be bad people, there will also be good. And by creating a community, you can help to create a safe place with people working together for ultimate survival. You don’t necessarily need to bug out in times of war. And there have been many communities that have come together in times of war. You’ll be able to trade and barter, help to scavenge firewood and other such needed items for the community. Do be aware that even if you do create a community, that doesn’t mean there won’t be conflict. There will need to be a strong guidance system in place.
Step 7:
Consider the possibility of cyberwar. Cyberwar may be more of a possibility than chemical or nuclear. Prepare to live an off grid lifestyle. Off grid laundry, off grid showers, off grid sanitation, off grid toilets, off grid heating and cooling, etc. Also be sure to have plenty of cash on hand. While cash may be useless at some point, it may hold power for some time in the beginning. Also be prepared with barter and trade skills and items.
Don’t wait until it’s too late to get prepared. Do it now.
