Long Term Water Procurement – National Preparedness Month

Storing water is great and there are many ways to do it. For short term purposes, the majority of us adequately store enough water for all of our needs for 2-4 weeks at the least.
What about a longer term SHTF situation? Storing will only last so long. Let’s face it, water is heavy and bulky and we only have so much room.
So how can we find and purify water?

We need to be looking for water sources now. They may be in more areas than you think.
Water sources can be anything from:
- Streams, lakes, creeks
- Rain water
- Well
- Melting ice and snow
- Tapping trees
- Desalinating sea water
- Buildings using a sillcock key
- Hot water tank in your home
If your water source is fairly far and you need to haul it, how could you haul it? Bike with a trailer? Walking with a cart? I would highly recommend trying it out first before relying on it. By experimenting you may find ways that will work better.
Urban areas can use a sillcock key or other urban water sources such as hot water tanks.

When you look for water, you’ll probably want to purify it as well. So have PLENTY of water purification options.
Some water purification options might be:
- Filter and boil
- Water tablets
- Bleach
- Water straws/pumps
- Reverse Osmosis
- Distillation
- Solar
- Berkey

Putting these on your blog too = you da MVP! I’m still on the Instagram but I am almost done there. Thank you!
I’m so glad to hear it’s helpful to have it here, too! I figure it’s much more useful on a website where it can be very easily accessed than on Instagram where it’s hard to search and pics come and go so quickly. Thank you!
