A Well Kept Kitchen Pantry – National Preparedness Month

I like to have a well stocked kitchen for everyday cooking needs as well as emergencies.
I use these items regularly in my everyday cooking, as well as storing extras for SHTF.
Many of this is long term but some may be shorter term. Some of the longer term items would be the honey, oats, powdered milk, pasta, peanut butter, rice, salt, popcorn, spices, coffee, tea, sugars.
Some of the shorter term foods would be cornmeal, pasta sauces, baking powder, oils, yeast, ground flour and canned foods. And by shorter, I mean they can easily last between 5-15 years, depending on the type of food.
I’m also learning how to substitute foods. For instance, did you know you can make baking powder by two parts cream of tar tar with 1 part baking soda? I happen to store cream of tar tar, mainly to make my own play dough, but for other things, too, so this works out in my favor.
In addition, I’ll store wheat berries to grind myself because ground flour doesn’t last that long (maybe 2-5 years), same with the cornmeal, have the dried corn to grind it yourself as ground corn doesn’t last that long.
So it just depends on your needs. I would love to eventually grow my own wheat one year!
What are some other everyday and emergency preparedness staples of your kitchen?
