Preparedness With Kids on The Survival Podcast

Recently I had the pleasure of appearing on Jack Spirko’s podcast, The Survival Podcast. We had an amazing discussion about raising kids to be self-reliant and to in general, learning the way of the world.
How do we teach kids about preparedness?
The younger you get them involved, the better. I’ve been teaching my children about preparedness, survival and the outdoors since they were born.
Granted, they won’t actually understand anything until they’re a bit older, but at the time of writing this, my eldest daughter is 3 1/2 years old. By the time she was around 2, she was understanding most everything and was involved with most everything. Why is that? Because I involved her in EVERYTHING!
When I made a fire, she was nearby, watching.
When I inventoried my bug out bag or made her bug out bag, she was there, watching and “helping”.
When I made a garden, she would watch and help me water.
When I took care of the chickens, she would help collect eggs and feed them treats.
She doesn’t view any of these activities as prepping. They’re just life!
If you have older kids , I would still encourage you to get them involved. Just start doing things and invite them to go along. Don’t mention that it has anything to do with preparedness. Just do it!
